In Korean term, there is a word that is difficult to accurately translate into a foreign language called '멋MUT'. It is a term that integrates sophistication that is demonstrated based on spaciousness beyond necessity, independent of function. 
Our traditional architecture does not suppress the human in it for its function, but rather has a creative space that is different from the functional one by allowing various happenings and games to take place within the space. 
The ‘House of Walls’ (pictured), the home of three generations of a family in the suburbs of Seoul, was created with these thoughts in mind.

The steep slope embraces the lush forest inward and has a landscape that stretches far ahead. The key was how to beautifully embrace the nature and landscape facing each other from different directions deep and generously in the house.

Architecture is basically composed with a horizontal floor and vertical walls. Horizontal surfaces connect each other, and vertical surface separate each space.

In this house, the walls, which are vertical elements of division, form several layers. However, it is characteristic that these walls play a role of expanding and connecting rather than acting as a division or boundary.

Multiple walls are subtly misaligned with each other and are like a canvas that captures the surrounding nature while varying in height.
The rooms extend generously to the outside, and the boundary between inside and outside disappears like a traditional Daecheong space.
Since it is sloping, the lower floor naturally embraces the surrounding forest, while the upper floors bring the open sky and landscape into the interior.

Together and separately, the empty space that organizes loose but diverse relationships with the outside allows us to contemplate in it and enrich our lives. Good architecture is not fully filled with functions, but it is about providing various possibilities and creatively filling them by the people living in it.
