Rivers are the starting point and heart of all urban civilizations. The Han River, like the soul of Seoul, is a physical and mental space that enhances the quality of our lives. The old word for Banpo, ‘Seorigae’ – a village with a meandering stream – implies a particularly close connection with the Han River. Since ancient times, when faced with outstanding nature, we have pursued unity with nature through the unique pavilions. The new ‘Public Culture Garden’ is a resting place in the city, with the forest becoming a pavilion and the green plaza becoming a ‘band’, immersed in the scenery of the Han River and a place within the Han River. It is a garden rest area for everyday life.
